A huge variety of gift baskets and quality gift items will be available this year for the first time at a Silent Auction.

Perhaps you’re interested in a Beach Theme basket with items such as a towel, cover up, sun glasses, suntan lotion, small portable radio, beach ball, small cooler, beach hat and beach bag.

Maybe you’d rather have a Quiet Time With God basket including items such as an LWML Bible, books by well-known religious authors, prayer book, Mustard Seeds, LWML sweatshirt, coffee cup, coffee, and religious music CD.

Or you might like to enjoy a week’s trip to a timeshare or cabin in the mountains.

Whatever suits your fancy, you’ll no doubt find a Silent Auction basket or single item you will want to bid on. Check out the displays in the Bayview room on the 12th floor of the Crowne Plaza.

Greetings and News from the Host Committees

SERVANT EVENTS AT THE CONVENTION

This is a first for Pacific Southwest District conventions. Following the example of the last two national conventions, Servant Events will replace the Interest Sessions that usually occur on Friday afternoon. These Servant Events will provide an opportunity for attendees to help in the community as well as world wide.

Start saving your unused soaps, tooth brushes, toothpaste and other hygiene as well as cosmetic items for an ingathering for the Lighthouse Women & Children’s Mission, part of the Ventura County Rescue Mission. A list of requested items will be included in your registration packet.

Learn of the journey the Lighthouse women and the women with children take who come to the mission and then help sort the ingathering items for these less fortunate individuals.

You may also want to help cut, tie and/or sew quilts to provide warmth for those reached through Lutheran Border Concerns and Lutheran World Relief.

Find the hero in you! Give blood — the gift of life — to patients in the community and across the nation.

Sharing Your Creativity

At the 2012 District Convention

The June 2012 LWML District convention promises to be inspiring and rewarding. The theme reflects the joy in our Lord and His living water. And, it’s being held beside one of God’s truly amazing waters --- the Pacific Ocean in beautiful Ventura, California.

We would like to invite you to share your creativity with others at the convention. It’s such a joy to see the artwork created by our own LWML members and friends who attend the convention! It doesn’t cost anything and we would love to display your art.

The categories are listed below and the only requirement is that your art reflect a Christian theme (and it can be created from a kit).

Crafts – Pottery, macramé, sewing, etc.

Collections – Crosses, angels, nativities, etc.

Needlework – Weaving, quilting, cross stitch

Painting and drawing – All media

Sculpture – Clay, metal, wood, etc.

Banners - (If possible, please provide your own pole and stand)

Some members thought it would be nice to display special nativity scenes. If you have a special nativity piece, you are welcome to display it.

The letter of invitation for the Christian Arts and Crafts Display and the Display Form for you to complete will be available from your local president sometime in December or January. Please complete the form and send it in right away. Each participant will receive a special gift just for displaying!!

Convention Ingathering

LIGHTHOUSE FOR WOMEN AND CHILDREN

Please join us in helping others!

The Lighthouse for Women and Children, part of the Ventura County Rescue Mission, is working to break the cycle of violence and provide support to poor and needy women and children. They provide food, shelter, transportation, case management, education, life skills development, vocational training and employment. The Lighthouse is the only 24-hour, 365-days-a-year shelter serving homeless women and women with children in all of Ventura County, California. It has an overall capacity of 113 beds offering specifically tailored programs and services in response to the needs.

The Lutheran Women’s Missionary League will be hearing their personal testimony at the upcoming LWML District Convention on June 8-10, 2012. The LWML is collecting and will sort a variety of personal hygiene and cosmetic products to assist these women and children. Your help is needed to provide the following items. All items must be unused, but can be hotel/travel size or regular size.
